As Promised, Ideomotor Action

Basically, here is a good definition of ideomotor action, per this website Ideomotor Action

"The term "ideomotor action" was coined by William B. Carpenter in 1852 in his explanation for the movements of rods and pendulums by dowsers, and some table turning or lifting by spirit mediums (the ones that weren't accomplished by cheating). Carpenter argued that muscular movement can be initiated by the mind independently of volition or emotions. We may not be aware of it, but suggestions can be made to the mind by others or by observations. Those suggestions can influence the mind and affect motor behavior."

This is the explanation of why some people feel that Applied Kinesiology 'works.'  Read on at the link included and you will see plenty of examples of how many TRUE Scientists have tried to see if AK works, to try and give it credit, but to no avail.  It is no better than guessing and you shouldn't pay for something that doesn't work and can have some pretty detrimental effects on your mind and your wallet.

Magnets and Lasers, are they for treatment?

Short answer: Magnets, No.  Lasers, depends on the kind and manner used.

First, Magnets.  There are Chiropractors that will use magnets to treat.  They claim that these magnets will keep your electromagnetic field in check and will keep you from getting a disease.  Some will claim it can even cure one!  This has been proven false time and time again.   You want to see some good articles proving it's false, go to this link:  Magnet Therapy.  When people wear these against their body and report feeling better, it is ALL placebo.  Most of the time, we will take a Doctor's word for it, and not question it.  But I could recommend a piece of plastic, or any other randomized object, as a form of treatment, and many people would report getting better.  Again, the placebo effect.

Now lasers can be different.  Cold Laser therapy is something that is widely used today in Chiropractors offices.  It is called Low Level Laser Therapy, or LLLT.  This is a legitimate form of treatment.  Basically, with a true Cold Laser, the light energy will penetrate the skin and bombard the mitochondria of cells.  These 'powerhouses' of the cells will respond to the light energy by producing more ATP.  This will be used to help heal, build tissues and 'dissolve' the pain.  This therapy is widely used by Pros in many sports.  Now, the second the Doctor starts to use it to 'cure' allergies, to change mood, 'interrupt' your electromagnetic field, or for anything besides swelling, bruising and pain, you should be leery.

Applied Kinesiology, Fact or Fiction?

The short answer: FICTION.  Applied Kinesiology, or AK,  is a form of Manual Muscle Testing, or MMA, that many Chiropractors use to 'diagnose' a disease or condition.  They will tell you to hold your arm out and then they will test it's strength using certain 'protocols.'  Sometimes they will ask you to hold an allergy vial, or hold little bottles of minerals, and sometimes they will test you for allergies to air!  Supposedly they can diagnose ANY condition conceivable to man by testing your muscles.  Sound impossible?  It is!  Time after time, legitimate scientific studies have proven that AK does not work as reported.
Some of my friends have gone to an AK Doctor and have told me that they really feel week in that muscle when the Doctor tests it.  There are a number of reasons for that action.  First, most times the amount of pressure applied by the Doctor will vary because of what they are trying to 'diagnose'.  The most important reason is because of ideomotor action by the brain.  Check out this website:Applied Kinesiology.  You can see what experts have proven about this pseudo-science.
Finally, don't get me wrong, not all Doctors that practice MMA are wrong.  Manual Muscle Testing is an important test in determining if nerve supply is impeded.  If you test weak in a certain muscle, it could mean that you have nerve damage, or something to that effect, or it could simply mean you are out of shape.  Also, the study of Kinesiology (not APPLIED KINESIOLOGY), is a legitimate science.  It studies muscles and their movements, strengths and ranges of motion.  If you want any further info, let me know and I will be happy to talk/email you more.

Problems I Found with Chiropractic

As I got out of school and worked in my career sector, I found many things that I disliked (and now avoid).  Some of these complaints came from others, but mostly are things I discovered that I wasn't taught in school.

Here is the list of the "Problems" I found with Chiropractic, from an official Doctor of Chiropractic's view:

1.  Cost:  I have seen patients with little or no money go to a Chiropractor with immense pain.  They make it clear that finances are short and hard pressed.  The Doctor agrees to see them at a 'cash rate' or lower price.  I have then seen these patients go to check out and be billed hundreds of dollars due to the exam, treatment, the supplements sold and so on.  I have seen the look of panic on these people's faces.  I don't like that look.

2.  Convenience:  I have seen Chiropractors that will work the weirdest hours and the only way to get in to see them is to take time off work or go during a lunch break.  Who wants to use a lunch break for a Doctor visit?  Who wants to get off work, where you may have been sitting all day, to go sit some more in a Doctor's office?  Sometimes the wait can be a LONG time.  I don't like that pattern.

3.  High Insurance Deductibles:  I have seen patients with $5000 insurance deductibles that have to pay out of pocket for Chiropractic care because of such a high deductible.  Then we are back to problem 1.  I don't like that insurance, or the lack thereof, can hinder treatment.

4.  No Insurance.  That speaks for itself, because then you are again faced with problem 1.  Not anymore.

5.  Short Time with the Doctor:  I have seen patients eager to be able to speak with their Doctor only given a few minutes to talk.  I have seen many a patient go in, get treated, get out and go home in about 5 minutes time.  I have seen situations where the patient is not even allowed to speak to the Doctor at all!  I like to talk to my patients.  Many times, one little recommendation from that conversation can make all the difference in the world.

6.  Pressure to BUY, BUY, BUY!!!!  I have seen patients being told that they have a certain condition and that the only thing to take care of that is to buy the Doctor's supplements, vitamins, braces, pillows, CD's, DVD's, books, and much more.  This is not true!  Otherwise, people wouldn't be getting better elsewhere.  I like to tell you what you need to do to get better.  If you need a vitamin, brace, etc., I will tell you where you can buy it for less than half of what you will pay in a Chiropractor's office.  Now a days, quality supplements can be found at our regular stores, like Walmart, Target, CVS, Walgreens, Sprouts, and more!

7.  Being Told to Come Back a Million Times!  I have seen patients being scheduled for 20 follow up visits after only the first treatment!  Some instances the 20 visits have been 'prescribed' even before being seen at the office!?  Truth of the matter is that most Chiropractic conditions should show remarkable improvement within 1 or 2 visits.  The need for all those visits is not the patient's, but the Doctor's.  I like to treat and leave the visits up to the patient. YOU set your treatment parameters.  No need to worry about becoming 'addicted' or having to pay hundreds of dollars a month for treatment that is unnecessary.

8.  Hidden Fees.  I have seen Chiropractors tell a patient that they will not have any surprise costs.  I am probably not the only one that has seen that change the second you go to check out.  Or a bill will come in the mail.  My fee is always the same, no matter what:  $30 fixed for your 15minutes of time with the Doctor.  Nothing extra.

Lastly,
9.  Weird Procedures.  I have seen some weird, unfounded, unproven and outright bogus stuff being performed by Chiropractors.  Check some of my other posts in blog archive for information about Applied Kinesiology (AK), Biomeridian Machines, Magnets, Lasers and so on.  Sometimes you will think that these tests feel real.  Just check my post about Ideomotor Action and brain patterns, you will find it very interesting, and downright cool.

Who is the 30 dollar Doctor?

It has been my goal since I became a Chiropractor to offer this valuable resource to all those that need it and require it.  I have wanted to be a Chiropractor ever since High School when I saw the effectiveness of it in my own life.  As I went through school, the desire to treat people with this great form of Healthcare grew.  Unfortunately, there are several things I found in my profession, outside of the school setting, that I disliked immensely.  I post these in another section, go ahead and see if you are the same, viewing these dislikes from a consumer/patient perspective. You can view these in the post archives to the right of this post.
These reasons are the inspiration behind On-Site Chiropractic.  The problems that I encountered led me to the necessity of finding a way to practice what I love: Chiropractic.  I only want to treat with Chiropractic; no magnets, no lasers, no unusual muscle testing for disease, no weird contraptions, no pushy supplement sales, etc.  That is my inspiration.  But one more huge obstacle is in the way: economy.
That is why I am  offering the 30 dollar Chiropractic visit.  I want the guess work about price to be gone.  I want the unaffordable prices to be gone.  I want the availability problems of Chiropractic to be gone.  Lastly, I want the short and non-personal visits to regular Chiropractors to be gone.
This is what I do.  I offer Chiropractic in your office/home/building setting at a price that all can afford.  My name is Dr. Jared Woolsey, DC.  I am Arizona Chiropractic Board Certified, Licensed, and Insured.  I offer quality Chiropractic at the most affordable price of anybody around, guaranteed.
